Resource library
What is in the library, how it is organized, and the vocabulary you need to find a series or an article without knowing its name in advance.
- Two libraries
- In-platform and published
- Catalog
- VXA Mapping Catalog
- Research cadence
- Weekly
What the library is
There are two libraries and it is worth knowing which one you are in. The Data Library sits inside the platform and catalogs the series themselves, every positioning and flow dataset, with its identifier, its coverage and its history. The published library sits on this website and holds the writing: research and the blog, organized by topic and by author.
The Data Library is where you go to answer 'does a series exist for this, and how far back does it go'. The published library is where you go to answer 'what did we conclude, and when'.
Inside the Data Library
The catalog is called the VXA Mapping Catalog. It is filterable rather than browsable, so the fastest route is usually to filter down the section you need and then search within it.
Library sections
The top-level split. Choose one before filtering, because the available filters differ between them.
- All VXA: positioning and flow series in the VXA mapping catalog.
- Positioning: combined positioning indicators.
- Flow: standalone and component flow series.
- Macro: macro pages and specialist dashboard datasets.
Flow categories
Flow datasets are grouped by how an investigation actually runs, not by vendor.
- Macro Positioning: futures, CTA and risk-parity positioning across asset classes.
- ETF & Fund Flows: allocation flows through ETFs, mutual funds and money-market vehicles.
- Options & Dealer Flows: options, warrants, gamma and derivatives flow for tactical pressure.
- Regional Investor Flows: domestic, foreign and institutional participation in local markets.
- Retail Flows: retail and individual investor activity.
- Short Interest & Exposure: short interest, long/short exposure and systematic equity exposures.
Columns you can sort and filter on
Each series row carries its own metadata, which is also what the filters read.
- Name and Series ID
- Asset type and Asset subtype
- Frequency
- Geography, Country and Region
- Investor type, Investor category and Investor origin
- Model and Benchmark
- Start date and Last update
The vocabulary, once
The same words mean the same thing in every product. Two of them are worth reading twice, because they are frequently confused.
- Z-Score (σ)
- A reading standardized against its own history, written with two decimals and a sigma glyph: +1.73σ. It says how unusual today is for that series, not how large it is in absolute terms.
- Crowding
- How much of the market is already positioned the same way. Above +1.5σ is Crowded Long, below −1.5σ is Crowded Short, in between is Neutral.
- Percentile
- The rank of the current value across the full history, shown as an ordinal, 73rd, 92nd. 50 is the neutral midpoint.
- Series ID
- The stable identifier for a series. Quote it in any question about a number, because names change and identifiers do not.
- Retail Net Turnover
- Retail buying less retail selling over the plotted interval. It appears as Net Flow in leaderboard columns and Retail Net Flow in the overlay picker, the same field, three labels.
- Retail Total Turnover
- Retail buying plus retail selling: a measure of attention rather than direction. A name can be heavily traded and close to flat on net.

If it is not in the library
Coverage develops continuously, and a series that is not in the catalog today is not necessarily out of scope. Send the request to sales@vanda.com with the market, the investor group and the history depth you need, and we will tell you plainly whether it exists, whether it is planned, or whether it does not.
For a question about a series that does exist (how it is constructed, why a reading moved, whether it is the right input for your model), research@vanda.com reaches the research team directly.
